Carolyn's Pralines

3-1/2 cups plus 2 Tbsp. granulated sugar
3 Tbsp. molasses
1 12 oz. can evaporated milk
1 Tbsp. vanilla
2 cups broken pecan pieces
Mix sugar, molasses and milk together in dutch oven. Cook to 234° (soft ball stage). It will be curdly looking. Remove from heat and stir in pecans and vanilla. Beat until it gets thick and starts to lose it's shininess. Spoon by tablespoon onto waxed paper.
